Fire Procedure
Each room has a half-hour fire door with a self closer, further to this there is a smoke detection system throughout the entire building with detectors in each room. These connectors are interlinked which means that if the detector goes off in one room it will go off throughout the house. The kitchen has a heat detector rather than a smoke detector so don't worry, you will not set the system off if you burn the toast. Please don't use candles in your room as they may set off the smoke detection system. There is a fire extinguisher in the upstairs and downstairs hall. Also in the kitchen there is a fire blanket. In the event of a frying pan fire please use the fire blanket in the first instance. Never put water on a frying pan fire.
In the event of fire dial 999. This is a free call from the payphone.

Front Door
This can have a tendency to bang - please close quietly at night. There are two keys to the front door, a latch key and a mortise key. The latch key is used most of the time, but the mortise key can be used if extra security is desired at night. The mortise key is a double throw key. The door entry buzzer works between 7am and 11:30pm.

Visitors You are most welcome to have visitors but do remember that others may want to use the kitchen. As far as people staying overnight is concerned, it is fine to have a friend of the same sex staying occasionally in your room but it should not be a regular occurrence.
